I just caught up my late posts over the last days.
I’m a big fan of your blog although I’m not an English native speaker/reader/writter. Actually I write in French and your advices are so usefull.
This column is definitely for me as I always write too long!

I’ll try your advices next time I’ll go through editing (right now, I’m building writting habits… So I’m not suppose to edit before 6 weeks! 🙂 )
Thanks for your blog! It’s great and so usefull.
Cheers
Aurore

Krithika: I’ve tried emailing you but haven’t heard back. You were the winner of the April book for your comment, above (based on a random draw.) If you can email me your address, I’ll send the book to you. Thanks!

Thanks for sharing your naming protocol Catherine. That’s really smart! I’m going to start copying it.

I wanted to echo your comment about cutting sections and putting them in another document for safekeeping. I ALWAYS do this for any writing project I care about. If my main file is blah.docx, then I create a file called blah-rejects.docx, and put the cut sections in, where I can reuse them for another project, put them back in the main doc if I have a change of heart and word count, or if I reshuffle.

And that’s a GOOD thing to do. Just remember the law of the crappy first draft: https://www.publicationcoach.com/crappy-first-draft/

It is. I guess I’m subconsciously trying to find the best way to get my point across, so I keep writing it in different ways without realizing it until I get to the editing stage.

It’s interesting how often we repeat ourselves, isn’t it?
