Actually, the dictionary gives two meanings to the word tic:

1) a habitual spasmodic contraction of the muscles, most often in the face. and
2) an idiosyncratic and habitual feature of a person’s behavior.

I did not mean to offend anyone. Apologies to anyone who took this the wrong way.

This is a ridiculous essay. “Like” and “umm” are habits, NOT TICS. I hope nobody dealing with an actual tic disorder reads this waste of time.

I have a habit of saying “ya know”. Weirdly, even though I’ve noticed it, others rarely do, which is nice.

In reply to LJ. Good point re: Toastmasters. Yes, it's an excellent organization. Many of them even have lunchtime meetings, which can be very convenient.
