This really helped me. I just finished half of my first novel, which I’ve been posting online chapter by chapter (fo free! Yes, I said fo intentionally). I’ve never had any technical training – my mother passed away in August and I all of a sudden became inspired to be a writer (its something she always encouraged because I was somewhat naturally talented). After I released the first few chapters, I had dozens of people telling me to submit it to a publisher, write it into a movie script, etc. I’m super close to having a major Hollywood studio picking it up! After reading this article I’ve decided to go back and meticulously read, re-read, and edit my material. Its helped a lot! Thanks for writing this. To answer your side note, I didn’t realize it either! I wish Aweber had told me this… I have so many subscribers, though, that the work required for me to ID all those who’d been unsubbed by Aweber and then contact them would be prohibitively expensive… It’s really frustrating, though…

Oh, this really hits home. Writing has never been the issue for me; I suffer in revision. Yet, like you point out, I’ve had to push myself to learn self-editing. This explains why I read the weekly writing of a born editor…you have the skills I’m working on while I’m writing! I have found processes useful because they give me a structure that makes sense and I do believe in practice which is why I wrote, host and edit a weekly flash fiction challenge.

On a sidenote, I didn’t realize Aweber unsubscribed readers. Is there a way that you can see the emails and recapture subscriptions?
