While I heartily endorse making lots of mistakes, I want to congratulate you, Jacqueline, on doing something so smart. Mindmapping is a great way to feel better about your writing — and to do a better job of it.

I just finished a draft for an article I’m writing on a very challenging subject–used a mindmap and typed it on the typewriter, which is my “trick” for preventing myself from going back and editing–and you know the best part? I enjoyed myself! I felt happy! Still do! And I was able to concentrate more on the voice I want to bring to the piece, which is not what I’m usually obsessing about.

I forgot about the mother-angle but, of course, as a mother I’ve made about a zillion mistakes!

Well, the type of lede I mean is pronounced “leed,” sounds like “heed.” It’s also spelled lead (and pronounced “leed.”) Nothing to do with the past participle of to lead!

Definitely a homophone! It’s all about what we expect to see, and context definitely makes a difference…

Hmm, not sure that counts as a homophone. It’s just a word that has more than one spelling. (Like: colour/color). I’ve never seen “led” before but I’ve seen both lede and lead….

And now I see that misspelling frequently in the writing of others; before it had been invisible. Homophones bite again.
