I agree that if Trump had worked to build a team in Iowa he might have won. Trouble is, he sees himself as “above” politics.

BTW I think your title about sums up the whole problem, his ego got in the way of winning. Had he even put in have a half assed effort to build a team in Iowa I think he would have beat Cruz

Ooo, I remember reading Festinger when I studied political science! (Cognitive dissonance was on our curriculum.) You’re quite right: Trump has already started distancing himself from his earlier “of course I’m gonna win” rhetoric. It will be interesting to see if it works. I still think corporations should steer clear of this kind of strategy, though…

First, thank you for your blog. It’s excellent. A nice mix between the literary and the practical.
You bring up an interesting point related to Donald Trump. Yet, I think what he’ll do is what Leon Festinger talks about in his book, When Prophecy Fails. He studied a UFO cult (by the way, interesting correlation with Mr. Trump) that had made predictions about the end of the world. When this didn’t happen, one might think the group would dissolve in a spasm of embarrassment. What happened instead was they reframed the situation. They said, “Now we know why the end of the world didn’t happen. God was testing all of us, testing us to see who was his true disciples. Don’t you see. Now when the end comes, the sheep indeed will be separated from the goats.”
I think this may happen with Mr. Trump. He’ll probably say, “My Iowa friends let me down. Hey, people are human. But my friends and supporters in New Hampshire now know it’s not gonna be as easy as we thought. Hey, it just makes me and my supporters more pumped up!”
I hope I’m wrong.
