I usually try to aim for an odd number 3, 5, 7 or 9. I don’t know why that 7 works so often!

You are describing two of the principles I live by, Lynne: Write everything down. Do the most important stuff first thing in the morning!

Good point, Michael. Everyone is different. I hope my ideas work for many readers but, failing that, they shoud help provoke some other, better ideas!

My approach involves keeping a (messy) diary of the ideas I’ve had, and which ones have worked, along with a measure of my productivity each day. This trial and error process is necessary because everyone is different, so each person has to discover what works for them. The strategies in this article seem like great ones to start experimenting with.

I once heard someone say, “if it isn’t written down, it isn’t real.” If you are a person who has ideas floating around in your head constantly (as I do!), blocking out a certain time of day, and then treating it as though you are physically going to an appointment, helps keep that commitment. For me, it’s early in the morning before any other distractions occur; even if it’s just 15 minutes, sometimes I don’t feel like it, but it’s getting better. =)
