My correspondents have become so used to my immediate response that they get worried if it does not come. I now send out a weekly “bulletin”, just to assure everyone I am still alive and more or less kicking. They wait for the weekend before thinking of phoning.
Back in the old days, my secretary acknowledged (postal) mail saying I was away, and XXX would look after the matter (or XXX acknowledged receipt of it).
