Thanks so much for your very kind words about my blog, Fiona; I really appreciate them.

Yes, do try to pay more attention when you’re reading. I always try to keep a little notebook beside me so I can write down words and/or sentences when I’m reading. If you’re PREPARED to make very brief notes, you will make more of them. And your reading will be closer.

You also remind me of some of the important things which tend to happen when you get really busy.

I don’t always read and absorb as much as what I should, although I love, love, love reading. Yet for the life of me I can’t think of one sentence which ‘grabbed’ me this week, well that I can remember anyway.

So what hope do I have when you say “reading closely will help you become a better writer” So I will endeavour to pay more attention when I’m reading.

Thanks for sharing your wisdom
