I have found when teaching newcomers to English that these words tend to make their eyes glaze over. But they understand that I usually comes at the beginning of a statement and me usually comes at the end – “I will do it” – “Do it to me.” Works for them.

Yes! People judge others who use “I” and “me” incorrectly. This is a really good reason to be very careful about using the words correctly, especially at work!
