I talked to a writer who would go on a cruise ship for a week to finish her books. Your cabin sounds better:) Now that my kids are grown, being home can feel like a retreat–but there is always something else to do. Thanks for inspiration!

Oh, that sounds heavenly. Love the image of watching thunderstorms roll by…

Sounds delightful. I’ve never been to Turkey but it’s been on my bucket list for a while.

I live in the busy SF Bay Area, and my boyfriend and I have access to a spacious house in Florida in a resort community for a few weeks in the summer. I bring my writing/editing and he brings his computer work. After swimming and sunning before noon, we work in different rooms overlooking a garden while the thunderstorms roll by during the afternoon and evening. I get up early and do my morning writing alone. It is this space around me here that I treasure – the room to breathe and feel myself and my writing. Thank you for describing it so well.

space around the edges of my life.

We stay in an apartment in a small fishing village. It has been the birth place of many of my projects. I identify with the reasons you have given. Soon be off there again and now I can prepare a draft ready to edit! Live this column. I learn so much!

Yes, the change of environment was the best aspect, for sure!

Thanks for your kind words, Jay. And for being persistent enough to email them to me!

I’m back in my office now and, sadly, it’s feeling very “real.” Still, I had a great time away. I like your juxtaposition of “hard job” and “easy place.” So true!
