Thanks, Christine. Yes, my point was that being so self-critical always does more harm than good. How did we ever develop the idea that we were HELPING ourselves by being self-critical??

In this modern world we should be kinder toward one another and ourselves. I think it would take power from the frustration monster and put that energy to better use.

This is not a religious blog but I totally respect your right to get comfort and compassion in whatever ways work for you. Thanks for sharing!

It’s funny how often tools that are useful for writing also work in other areas of life!

Glad to hear it, Cindi. I, too, had tried journaling for many years and had never been able to keep up with it (“cumbersome” is an excellent word for it.) The one-sentence rule makes it easy.

We are often at odds with other people when we pursue our own goals and ideas. This does not mean the other person is right. (Nor does it mean YOU are right, by the way.) But I have to believe that it’s more valuable to stay true to ourselves, acknowledging that sometimes this will mean accepting consequences.

But the best take-away for me is the one-sentence journal. I love that idea! I have tried journaling but it’s too cumbersome for me to maintain the habit. I’m starting my own one-sentence journal today!

Seriously, I was just beating myself up for taking the time to do more on a presentation than was required, because I want to deliver something of value to the recipient. But this puts me at odds with the assigning person, who just wants to get it done. And it puts me behind on another assignment due tomorrow. Aaargh! I don’t mind showing compassion to others. To me….well, let’s just say I’m a work in progress. Thanks again, friend! I cherish your encouragement!

For many indigenous communities, the upcoming Equinox is a time of balance between the outer world and the inner world – and for these fractious times, what better way to achieve harmony than compassion? Thanks for the most timely reminder.
