I ask my supervisor to give me deadlines (“by which day you want this manuscript back”?). What also help is a famous pomodoro method – I set the timer on 50 min, and this 50 min are solely for writing (or other important task). Then, within 10 min break I can do something else – event unimportant and non urgent.
In my daily planner I separate important from other things by priority criteria: I use 1 to 4 scale.
Last, my preference is to do important tasks before lunch. I do enjoy lunch more when one important taks is already accomplished!

Thank you, Daphne, for reminding us that important should have absolute privilege!

I love your ending statement…”Stop trying and start doing.”
