Hi Liz, I think some groups are meant to cheerlead and others are meant to critique. I’m not quite sure I understand the problem you had with your group (uncertain what you gave up after 4 pages of comments?) but if you’re feeling uncomfortable, perhaps you should move on. Is there anyone else you know in the group who could give you some advice? Do you really want to stay with the group? A lot of things to weigh here….

I recently thought I was being helpful when I gave up after 4 pages of comments, especially annoying when they are saying the same thing, in my opinion, and let the writer hear them. I certainly wasn’t addressing them to his person. I’ve wondered since – especially after receiving an email from him – if the group itself is not really more about cheerleading than about critiqueing. As a fairly new member, I feel I’ve stepped on toes now and am not sure how to resolve it or if it’s best to shake hands and part ways (if both are possible).
