Getting the word count makes a HUGE difference!

LOVE – thanks Daphne! I ALWAYS ask my client about the necessary word count – it just helps – lol

Oh, how frustrating! Writers could get away with that 20 years ago, but in today’s competitive marketplace for freelancers, following directives can give a writer an advantage.

I second the need to meet deadlines, since I’ve been an editor too. If you can’t rely on a writer, you don’t use them.

You can be a writer on your own terms when you’re writing for yourself. If someone else is paying you, you need to be a writer on THEIR terms.

Some writers really seem to resent following direction. When I was a senior editor at a daily newspaper I always asked everyone in my department to use very basic vocabulary. One reporter refused to do that and said to me (as though he were being really smart), “I like to send every reader to the dictionary at least once.” ARGH.

You’re welcome, Harry! You make an excellent point about the value and importance of feeling good about yourself.
