Yes, but memory is strange. I’m counting on the circus reminding me of something being done without serious effort. The mind LIKES little jokes (I visualize a fat and lazy clown trying to jump horses and falling off) and I think this one will do the trick. Have you read Moonwalking with Einstein? The desultor jumped purposefully. Jumping in a desultory manner would result in disaster! Usage seems to have departed from the original meaning of jumping, and the noun hardly exists in English.
