What I have to show so far for it is having read 2 books and having finished 2 Coursera courses. I know I wouldn’t have done it otherwise. It has even led me to actually calling or emailing my real friends instead of relying on quick interactions on FB. Nothing to complain about so far.

Thanks, Charles. I tend to use it only when I’m doing things like looking at airline tickets but you’re quite right: it’s smarter to use it the majority of the time.

I use DuckDuckGo about 98% of the time.

Yes, another prompt to start writing a blog again – good idea. It still leaves the question of the groups I’m in. And the amount of time I spend on Fb. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this – how easily many of us have made Fb part of our lives and now think we can’t do without it. No doubt part of their strategy!

This is a really good reminder about the need to be informed about how the sites we are using actually operate! At the end of my post, above, I provide several links that can help you determine this info. Thanks for posting, Goran!

Goran, don’t equate your (former) interest in Facebook with being ambitious, curious and forward-moving. Instead, I tend to see it as the opposite of those valuable traits!

“Go with the flow” my lead to “drowning in the ocean”. I am about to do that when I realized i had to put the ambitious, curious and forward going part of my character on hold. I have overestimated the strength of my ability to “have a firm hand on the rudder of my life.” I have even overstimated the way I say I know who I am and what I need. Going with Facebook for some time made me learn this.

Facebook entered my life at the age of 70. I assume I did learn a lot about living Face(book)-less before that. Participating in the 500 words a day Facebook group has given me contacts all over the world. Some of them show up as friends, real good friends and buddies. Facebook was good for that. – Facebook does not give much when you want to move towards a more precise language or deeper mutual contacs. – So the value of Facbooks really depends on how well you know your individual needs. – If you do not know your true needs you may easily be distracted by using Facebook. – A few days ago I cleaned my profile. I was astonished by how many apps i had reading my traffic but never used or know they existed. I also limited what data I allow to be read.

Yes, these two concepts are closely related. In fact, so many people spend much of their smartphone time on facebook that perhaps the two points are actually the same issue!
